چکیده

A laboratory stream experiment was performed to test the influence of young-ofthe-year Atlantic salmon Salmo Salar density on habitat selection (i.e. pools and riffles) and the combined effect of habitat and density on territoriality. Pools were preferred at low and medium fish density. At higher density, the saturation of the riffles led to an equal fish repartition in both habitats. Aggressive interactions increased according to fish density, and the level of aggression was significantly higher in the pools than in the riffles. # 2006 The Fisheries Society of the British Isles

Effect of feeding rate on nutrient digestibility in Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L.

A digestibility trial was conducted to examine the effect of feeding rate on dry matter, gross energy, crude protein and phosphorus digestibility in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Duplicate groups of fish were fed 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25 and 1.9% BW/day. The faeces were collected by Guelph-type collectors for five successive days. Dry matter, protein and phosphorus digestibility’s were all s...

Histopathological study of gills in experimentally amoebic gill disease (AGD) infected Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar, L.

Amoebic gill disease (AGD) is the most important parasitic disease of Atlantic salmon industry inAustralia. Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) experimentally infected with Neoparamoeba sp. apparently showedAGD gross signs on the gill and an amoebic-associated gill pathology. Physico-chemical factors of waterduring the experiment were monitored regularly and were approximately constant (temperature: ...

Growth hormone transgenesis does not influence territorial dominance or growth and survival of first-feeding Atlantic salmon Salmo salar in food-limited stream microcosms.

This study explored the relative competitive ability and performance of first-feeding growth hormone (GH) transgenic and non-transgenic Atlantic salmon Salmo salar fry under low food conditions. Pair-wise dominance trials indicated a strong competitive advantage for residents of a contested foraging territory. Transgenic and non-transgenic individuals, however, were equally likely to be dominan...

Behavioural and Growth Responses of a Territorial Fish (Atlantic Salmon, Salmo salar, L.) to Multiple Predatory Cues

In natural communities, prey often share their environment with many predators unequally distributed in space and time. Ecologists have recently incorporated this predator diversity into their studies, focussing on the response of prey to multiple and simultaneously occurring predators. In these cases, Correspondence Simon Blanchet and Julian J. Dodson, Département de biologie, Pavillon Vachon,...
